Of course some did.  They even put lifesavers in hives, and many other imaginative but less innoculous things.

You'll have trouble finding reports of that, though with our filtered search engines and the general tendency of beekeepers to keep quiet.

I've 'herd' of it in conversations at conventions but even our BEE-L archives are discreetly mum on the topic.  Maybe some BeeSource readers can search there.
