Re: breastfeeding and congestive heart failure.
I have heard a cardiologist suggest that a recently delivered mother in CCU (Cardiac Care Unit) due to heart failure not breastfeed. He was very apologetic when he made the recommedation. I can't remember the actual studies he quoted but the following study may explain it:
Endocrinology. 2013 Feb;154(2):597-602. doi: 10.1210/en.2012-1789. Epub 2012 Dec 18.
Effect of lactation on postpartum cardiac function of pregnancy-associated hypertensive mice.
Murata K1, Saito C, Ishida J, Hamada J, Sugiyama F, Yagami K, Fukamizu A.
However, most, if not all, the other studies I have seen have touted the benefits of breastfeeding.
