Some days I feel like the person with the broom that follows the elephant
parade.

This months "Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine" [Feb 1999] has a
MJ sponsored article "Neonatal Jaudice and Diet" pp184-188.

The article compares Enfamil and Nutramagen and BF - actually found no
sig difference between jaundice level of E group and BF group that did not
receive therapy in the first week (note: the difference between effective
breastfeeding vs. ineffective breastfeeding?) And still reported BF
greater jaundice levels by going out to 3 weeks time in the study.

The article makes the statement: "temporary interruption of BF and
substitution with formula" is advocated by the AAP as one therapeutic
option for jaundice associated with breastfeeding. (Paraphrasing now)
therefore they are doing this study to we'll know which formula to switch
to -"This knowlege could potentially allow infants to get back to
breastfeeding faster".

My foot! Where's my broom!!!

Refering back to my research post - this is why you must read the article
not just the abstract.

I'll be sure to post my response letter.
