Rachel,
As I've been busy and preoccupied lately, it was only this morning that I
noticed the messages in Lactnet were light on. Just one post in that
Lactnet edition. Then I read your post specifically on this when I came
home this afternoon.
I had no idea there was a Lactnet facebook page and it is not something
that I shall participate in. (I mostly ignore facebook in other contexts
and a lot is deleted, unread.) The regular Lactnet model is such a good
sharing and networking forum that we all need to support it to help it
continue to serve this purpose and to lessen isolation for Lactnet folk
with few (or no) local colleagues. The existence of the ever-growing
Lactnet Archives is a very big plus that has been mentioned in this
discussion.
Sure, we can't solve everything, but on Lactnet we can explore options and
provide ideas about options for others who have a puzzling situation. We
can debrief when our carefully and sensitively provided advice falls on
deaf ears, celebrate exam results or new baby news, learn something new -
which just might be what we need with the next mother-baby dyad we see. An
exciting thing about this field is that we can learn all the time!
Action idea:
During this lull in posts it might be a good time for Lactnet members who
have been lurking to take up the chance to join this discussion and to
introduce themselves. It would be lovely to know how Lactnet continues to
attract members who are not confident to post, but still keep on reading
Lactnet regularly. Do you have similar needs filled on Lactnet as people
who post regularly? Is it the discussion or the Archives that attract you?
Or both? I'd love to hear your opinion on this.
