I'm sure you are married to a caring, wonderful OB doc. My comment was not
meant to imply all OB's. But, one has to generalize to the group (ACOG)
that has deemed elective c/s's an ethical
decision to preserve the woman's pelvis (which is certainly debatable). So,
my comments were general referring to those group decisions that then are
taken by individual docs to justify current practice. I do sympathize with
the malpractice issue-it too is outrageous. I think we have a very sick
system, and that creates what we are seeing. As Phil Donahue used to say,
"there is plenty of sin to go around"...

Please don't generalize re: OB/Gyns. Our family missed a lot of "dad" time
because of my husband's call schedule and the hours babies decided to
arrive. My husband often came home frustrated because women insisted on
early epidurals, inductions, and other interventions. He hardly needed to
talk them into a lot of this stuff, and he generally had an impossible time
talking them out of it. Even the OBs I know who are more apathetic, spending
more time on the golf course or at home does not seem to be the common
motivating factor. Having more control meaning less likelihood of a
malpractice suit is a much higher motivator. And if a high number of OBs are
willing perform an operative delivery upon request vs. medical reason, it is
going to be hell to resist the pressure for those who don't want to do so...
