Babies born so early usually need significant help to have normal oral
motor skills. Mom can perhaps try giving the breast for dessert, after
he has taken some milk from the bottle, and choose times of day when he
is most organized to offer the breast. If she has access to a good
IBCLC or speech therapist, they can be helpful with latch strategies and
to check if the baby is having difficulty with the milk flow, which
sometimes happens with former premies.
