Deep understanding of suffering suggests that rocks do not suffer. Continuing on the capacity of invertebrates to suffer:

This is of course the shallow understanding and the deeper understanding would be how these things work individually and together to make what we think of as one ingredient of soil.  As it turns out people benefit from this suffering....
