Exactly my approach although I intend to replace the floor level with 
the trap and provided the bees with a slightly modified entrance.  I 
selected the floor level since I noticed that the hornets were greatly 
interested in the bottom of the hive looking at each side and the bottom 
so putting a trap at that level seems to be the first place to experiment.

We shall see what happens but I have to get the traps finished first :)
