Have you tried substituting monofilament fishing line for the wire?  It
works just as well, it's easier to handle and install, and it lets you cut
out a queen cell without the interference of wire.  For a video on
installing mono in a frame, search on Youtube for the FatBeeMan.  It's a
funny and instructive video.

 

It's cheaper than wire, too.  Incidentally, 8# test is about the right size.
