I think that the question of whether off-label use has more likelihood of being a cause of resistance than on-label use is something that is more a theory than a proven fact in many cases.  

IMO this story has been promoted by those who invest time and money to register and create the label, their associates, and followers who like simple explanations for the inexplicable  to protect their market and their investment than truth. In some cases this may actually be the reverse of truth and the off-label use might be the better application..
