>Really weird. Are you in Fiji? I wonder it is a rare A. mellifera x A. cerana hybrid. As you probably know, cerana drone cells normally have a hole in the center. Maybe some of the workers are trying to perforate the cells and some of them are trying to fix them. Other than that, wow!

Peter, work by Dr. Ben Oldroyd here in Australia shows that when A. mellifera queens mate with A. cerana drones there is no hybrid bees produced.  See https://rirdc.infoservices.com.au/items/14-049 

Also I am not aware of cerana being found in Fiji.
