<Have you thought of flower pressure to relieve the areola oedema?>

I checked with Gwen and she is of course referring to the Flower Hold position to do RPS, (as in the finger position used when making flower petals when fingerpainting), devised by our very own Rachel Myr (recently having received her MPH!).

She tactfully and correctly pointed out to me early on, that a mother who is holding her baby to comfort him/her, is not going to put the baby down to use two hands to do RPS, no matter how convinced she might be of its value! DUH!

Plus, she had her son snap a picture of her hand applying the Flower Hold on a demo breast. She translated an early RPS article into Norwegian and included that illustration when (as the then-editor of the Journal of the Norwegian Midwives Association), she published it.

This woke me up by reminding me of the old Chinese proverb "A picture is worth a thousand words! Another DUH! So I immediately enlisted the help of my gracious and talented young artist grandson Kyle Cotterman. (you may want to google him and/or check his website now;-)

In addition, she continued to spread the word in Europe in her talks and in her networking there.

Rachel was the wind beneath my wings as I was first conceptualizing RPS.

Aren't we lucky to have her here now as one our listmothers on Lactnet????
