Neocate is, as stated, a new hypoallergenic formula. It is "elemental",
meaning that the proteins have been broken down into their amino acid
components, and hence should not be allergenic as larger protein molecules can
be. It is expensive, as are all highly processed formulas. I have
successfully used in on a few patients (all bottlefed, of course) who were
highly allergic to even the highly modified bovine protein found in Nutramigen
and Alimentum. Now, if I could only convince ALL my patients' moms to
breasfeed them, maybe I wouldn't need to use expensive elemental formulas!
