I have a mother who just had her 2nd baby. She breastfed her 1st baby for 1 month then got masitis. She had a difficult time clearing the mastitis and her milk dried up in the process. She told me she has cysts in her breasts and she had them during and after pregnancy with her first baby. She did not notice any 'lumps' this pregnancy. She mentioned that she had mastitis when she was in 7th grade. She was put on antibiotics and they had to drain the duct using a needle. She also stated her sister had the same issue also at a young age. My question is what would cause mastitis at such a young age and do you have any tips (beyond the basic infromation we give mothers) for preventing mastitis with this baby? Thanks!
