I just had to share this .......

LAst week a local ped referred me a mom whose baby was not gaining weight, at 1 month he was still 7 ounces under his birth weight, He wanted me to set up the SNS for her, after watching baby nurse and a long discussion (with her very active3 y.o. running around my office) I discovered that the baby was only nursing 7 times in 24 hours, her supply seemed adequate, so I set up the SNS but sent her home with the instructions to feed the baby from the breast without the supplementer 10 - 12 times in 24 hours, baby was sleeping 7-8 hours at night since she got home with him. I told her to only use the SNS is the baby would not nurse every 2 -3 hours. Mom went home, woke up baby every 2-3 hours in the day and once at night and did *not* use the SNS, went back to the ped 24 hours later and the baby had gained 4 ounces!!!!!!!!!

The ped could not believe that something so simple as more feeding per day could fix this problem, according to mom, he didn't really question her in that much depth as to the # of feeds per day.

YIPEEEEEEEE!

So happy when something finally works out for a change !!
