How about asn ice cube tray that has separate compartments (rather than a divider).  Mom puts the milk in as many compartments as appropriate, and once frozen the cubes are stored in freezer bags (probably the zipper kind works best).Then she just has to thaw as many cubes as appropriate when needed.  Initial outlay for one ice cube tray and a box of freezer bags can last a very long time.  he bags csan be washed and reused.
