Subject: NIH Worksite Lactation Rooms -- Three New Locations!

Open immediately on the NIH main campus is a new lactation
room in Building 49 (Conte Building). Two additional sites will
open during the month of April -- one room in the Rockledge
complex and a temporary room in the EPS/EPN complex.

The NIH Lactation Program is free to NIH employees. In addition
to the new sites, NIH has lactation rooms in four other locations:
Building 31, Building 10, Building 45, and the Neuroscience
Center (NSC) at 6001 Executive Blvd.

Each NIH lactation room is a clean, secure, private room equipped
with table, chair, and a fully-automatic electric breast pump.
Nursing moms can either bring their own pump, or buy an
adapter kit to use the NIH-provided pump. Use of the room is
reserved in advance through the NIH on-site lactation consultant
so mothers do not have to wait.

The NIH Lactation Program is designed to assist new moms with
implementing breastfeeding and ease the transition back to work.
Services available through the program include prenatal education
classes, telephone support while on maternity leave, consultation
concerning return-to-work issues, and access to breastpumps.
Moms who choose not to use the lactation rooms are still eligible
to sign up for classes, phone support, and consultation services.
The ideal time to register for the program is in the third trimester
of pregnancy.

Experts agree that nursing is the healthiest choice for both baby
and mother. If you would like to enroll in the Lactation Program,
register for prenatal education classes, or want more information,
go to http://odp.od.nih.gov/whpp/events/lactation.html or contact
the on-site lactation consultant, Jane Balkam, RNC, CPNP, IBCLC,
by phone (301)435-7850 or e-mail ([log in to unmask]).

This program has been made available through the generous
support of the Office of the Director (Office of Disease Prevention,
Office of Research on Women's Health, Office of Human Resource
Management), the National Institute of General Medical Services,
the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development,
and the National Human Genome Research Institute.

Special thanks to the National Human Genome Research Institute,
the Center for Scientific Review, and the Office of Human Resource
Management for making the three new rooms available.
