I would suspect that the mom's thyroid, not breastfeeding, caused such
weight loss.  Often moms' thyroids don't bounce back properly after
pregnancy so they're either hypothyroid or hyperthyroid.  The mom you
mentioned sounds like she was hyperthyroid and maybe her thyroid
straightened out after weaning.  Since she only consulted a nutritionist and
not someone who could perform the appropriate thyroid tests, it's hard to
say whether or not that was the cause for her incredibly high metabolism.
