I want to check out if I am missing something.

In the facility where I work I see many babies pretty much right after hospital d/c or sometimes a week or more later. In the past few weeks I have seen numerous babies from a specific hospital that are being 100% bottle fed and the mom's are asking me to help them get the baby back to the breast. I won't even discuss the milk supply issue. When I ask them why they are only bottle feeding, they tell me that in the hospital they would not let them breastfeed as it would tire out the baby too much-they must not breastfeed until the baby is either 2500 gram or 36 weeks old.

Now, this didn't sound quite right to me but you hear something enough times..... I tried to check it out and, strangely enough, could not find anything to support this practice. Could anyone point me to the very best article, in your opinion, that supports the appropriate feeding protocol for full term lbw newborns and/or healthy late preterms.

Thanking you in advance,
Riva Wesissfish BA,CCE,IBCLC
