This is from Cathy Genna, who is having technical problems.:

The reason there is soybean oil in abm is that it is a source of
linolenic acid, which is converted into some of those long chain fatty
acids baby needs so much.  Linoleic acid, common in corn oil, actually
inhibits this conversion.  There was a big to-do a few years ago about
powdered abm being deficient in linolenic acid, because there hadn't been
a way to preserve dried soybean oil.  Soybean oil immediately appeared in
powdered abm's.  I don't know about the composition of other oils.  Any
biochemists or nutritionists care to take a stab at this?
