A client who started out with a nipple shield weaned from it fairly quickly, but was plagued by small breast storage space that sometimes had her up and pumping in the night if her son slept too soundly to want to nurse.  

She found a way past their mismatch: If she wakens full and he's sound asleep, she puts the nipple shield on and slips her breast into her sleeping son's mouth.  He nurses without waking and they both finish the night in comfort.  He, of course, is growing like a weed...
