As a new mom in 1993, I tried without success to do the "safety pin" thing on
my bra strap to know which breast to start baby out on a feeding. The advice
was in "all" the books! After a short while, I was frustrated and annoyed.
I then got into the habit of giving my breasts a little squeeze through my
shirt- just by feel, I could tell which breast was fuller and would start a
feeding on that side. This worked fine except when done in public, which
happened many a time to me in the early days! Nothing more embarassing than
realizing you just felt yourself up in front of strangers!

PS- I gave up trying to figure out which breast to start with after a while,
I just gave which ever one was more convenient to me.
