Wondered if anyone has worked with a client with complaints of numbness
in arms and hands due to pressure on them from full breasts (only at
night); My client states she has always had some carpal tunnel syndrome
and it has progressed since delivery; she has noticed it usually is at
its worst during the night while sleeping on her side; Her OB has told
her to stop breastfeeding if she wants any relief! He also suggested
pumping twice during the night to decrease the fullness if she decides
to continue breastfeeding; She has been nursing for 8weeks after some
difficulty and doesn't want to stop but is afraid to hold the baby due
to her hands not functioning properly. I suggested she sleep in a light
bra at night to support the breasts and to place pillows on each side of
her to prevent rolling over on her side during sleep; I also suggested
contacting a neurologist that specializes in carpal tunnel. Any other
thoughts? She states her breasts are 2 cups sizes larger than
prepregnancy. I would hate for her to stop breastfeeding for something
as this.
