Lynn,
Sure sounds like mom and pediatrician were both "doing" Prep/Babywise, as
your description was almost verbatim to instructions in the manual a few
years ago on how to deal with potential milk supply problems. It was never
the fault of the schedule, you know?

One of the saddest things about that program is that it tends to stunt
parenting growth-- what is obvious to you and me is not to them. The program
is a package deal that purports to have reliable breastfeeding advice, and
it is written in such a manner as to "convert" the reader to its point of
view, hook, line and sinker.

Even worse, for a professional to embrace the shallow academic arguments of
the books is a scary thing, for that does not say much about their ability
to read widely or critically. It goes back to the old adage: a little
knowledge is a dangerous thing--- they think they know enough to make a good
judgment call, but they don't.

Jumping off the soapbox,
Lisa Marasco, BA, IBCLC
