Dr. Ruth Lawrence, "A Review of the Medical Benefits and Contraindications
to Breastfeeding in the United States", Oct. 1997:

"All infants born to mothers with active disease (HBV) or persistent
hepatitis B specific antigen (HBsAg) should receive Hepatitis B specific
immunoglobulin (HBIG) immediately at birth or as soon thereafter as
possible....As soon as HBIG is given, breastfeeding may begin." (p. 14,
column 2)
