Holly,
100mg per day is the recommded supplement of DHA. B12 is best taken in
sublingual form and 100mg per day of B6 is standard. Depletion of B6 in
particular is associated with depression. However, vitex (chastetree berry)
can be extremely effective in balancing hormones and relieving syptoms. Using
the standardized extract in tincture form, the mother takes 2 droppersful in
water or juice first thing in the morning. (Vitex is also said to increase
milk production). Further, glycemic imbalances are notorious for causing
depression. Many mothers become very dependent on dairy products and
carbohydrates to the exclusion of other foods and are in a constant state of
insulin production. Balancing the diet, esp with addition of green foods
(like barley green and spirulina), as well as a soy protein shake could be
very beneficial.
