I have no "scientific" data, but I did work in a hospital in Southern
Africa which had 1500 deliveries/month. The mothers and babies always
slept together in a cot the size of an army cot. In the entire year
that I was there (approximately 18,000 deliveries), not one baby fell
out of bed.

Of course, if we cut down the number of caesareans and episiotomies, we
would have less use of analgesics, wouldn't we?
