I beleive the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) actually uses the word 'compelling' when stated the evidence FOR breastfeeding. I believe they discuss jaundice and if possible continue bf while doing frequent testing or phototherapy. There is an AAP algorithm that tells if the baby is high risk, high intermediate risk, low intermediate risk, or low risk for need for treatment, followup, complications etc which also helps to decide how serious the hyperbilirubinemia is.
Frankly, the person in question may not be swayed by any of this, unfortunately sounds "hard-headed."

Opinions expressed above are not necessarily those of Baptist.
