Dear Friends:
As with every physiologic activity, weight gain must be variable.
I remember reading that there is an average range of milk production for
humans that is between 350cc and 950 cc/24 hours; the average was 750. And all
the babies thrived, no matter what their mother's daily production was.
So how can there be a number for volume/unit of weight? It has to be a
range.
As women hit their peak production and stay there, the baby continues to
grow. Women don't keep making more milk. This is part of the magic of
lactation..............
    warmly,

Nikki Lee RN, MS, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CCE
