Hi Pearl--

Pearl said: We already know HOW HIV is transmitted. With HIV reaching
epidemic
proportions I personally can't understand why more $ aren't put into
prevention.

Point well taken! This is something a member of our delegation (Cindy
Duke, Davis CA) kept bringing up--it's not the babies who are infecting
others in such high numbers. Why is it that the women and the babies
are the ones who are always expected to change their behaviour (which is
bfing)?

The last press release I got on the subject did say that putting their
money into prevention is the approach the SA government is taking at
this point. The press release also went on to say that the AIDS law
project at the University of Witswatersrand is taking the Dept of Health
to court over this. Maybe one of our South African colleagues could
bring us up to date.

Stay well,
Kendall
