Oh wise ones,

If a health professional who is breastfeeding is working with a patient of
unknown HIV status and gets a needle stick, should she stop breastfeeding?

If so, for how long?

If not, why not?

If the patient's blood results come back positive for HIV, what are the
chances of the mother who received the needle stick transmitting this to the
baby via breastmilk? If the mother would contract HIV from the needle stick,
how long would it take before she would transmit it through the breastmilk?

Thanks --

Jan B (in Wheaton where we enjoyed a balmy 63 yesterday, but where it is
supposed to snow by Sunday).
