TEXT/PLAIN (17 lines)
A mother of twins asked me about the following situation. Term
twins--boy,weight 2915, girl weighing 2470. The mother had gestational
diabetes, and babies were given glucose supplements (routine). Afterwards,
the mother was told that the smaller baby needed calcium supplements for
"brain development", and was supposed to receive 3cc's orally , 3 times a
day for three days. Mom felt this adversely affected the baby's suck and
discontinued the supplement, but is wondering what the story is because she
never heard of this (nor have I). Twins by the way are the second set for
this family, children numbers 9 and 10! Mom roomed in with help of older
daughters. Breastfeeding going famously well!
Explanation appreciated. Bracha Haskel
