Someone asked about the LDS (Mormon) standpoint on breastfeeding, as
apparently Mike Leavitt is an LDS father of five. Quoting from The Latter-Day Saint
Woman (lesson manual):

"Our Heavenly Father made the mother's body so it could produce milk. This
milk is made especially for human babies to drink. It is better for babies
than milk from animals. The first fluid that comes from the mother's breasts
after a new baby is born is also imporant. It contains substances that help
protect the baby from diseases for the first few months."

This is a positive statement, and for a world-wide church is written in
basic language. However, my reality is that LDS Mamas I see have about the same
initiation and duration rates as the general population. So while I would
hope the Leavitt children were nursed, I wouldn't assume it, sadly. I sure
hope he is an improvement on Mr. Thompson, however.
