Sometimes weaning is baby - directed, sometimes mother-directed and
sometimes mutual. If, for whatever reason, a mom no longer wants to BF,
then I always feel she and baby need to stop. I think mom's resentment and
ill feelings are communicated to the baby. There is no BF law that a mom
must nurse a baby into toddlerhood. It is OK for mom to say no, we're
done.

Sometimes a mom says she wants to stop and when we explore it with her we
get to the real reason, which may not be valid because mom has gotten
poor or incorrect info. That's a different story and I counsel mom
differently.

I've also found that age and experience as a mother change many women's
minds about how long to BF, with later babies nursing longer because mom
is more comfortable with the whole idea and process. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
