Kathy:  In order to clarify my paraphrasing of Dr. Newman.  I don't
necessarily fully agree with Jack's 10 minute rule, but it does make a
point.  I personally think nursing is way more that nutrition, so I would
NEVER limit the time at the breast.   Clearly, if a baby is neurologically
challenged or the mom has anatomical issues or there are problems being
worked through, this doesn't apply.  Sorry for misleading or being
insensitive to anyone.  I remember thinking that 10 minutes was a
ridiculously short time when Jack first posted this (or maybe I heard him
say it at a conference).  However, once I regularly started applying his
breast compression techniques with a large number of moms, I realized it
does apply to healthy, full term babies without any of the aforementioned
issues.
