Lisa and All,
The shields have been out there to the general public in my area for quite a
while. It is very disturbing to me...the details of how to use a shield and
when properly are sadly lacking - I wonder if the company worries about
lawsuit due to failure of BF when the shiled is used incorrectly - correctly
being under the close supervision of a skilled LC. Using them for sore
nipples is not, in my opinion, always the appropriate answer...fixing the
latch sounds better...

The other thing that is frustrating for me is that the other company that
makes shields has incorrect information for use in the package. It tells
moms to simply place the shield over the nipple - those of us who know
better know that this can lead to serious problems re: milk supply. The
instructions should say to flip it about halfway inside out to establish a
vacuumm like effect drawing the mother's nipple into the shield for a better
fit for mom and baby...How many moms come home from hosp. using a shield
incorrectly and having problems as a result...sigh...

Jaye
