Does anyone else watch Real Families? I keep trying to make myself watch
it in case I just caught it on a bad day, but the few glimpses I've had
have made me really uncomfortable. It is very consistent with Ferber,
Ezzo, etc. A couple of psychologists talk about a problem, and then one
"teaches" the parents how to handle it. Interfering with a parent's
quiet time, for instance, means being forced to stay in another room.
Getting up at night gets the predictable treatment. The thing that is so
heartbreaking is that there is a monitor on the kids and a monitor on
the parents, and it is hard to see, at first, who is more distressed.
Then the parents are consoled. Sigh.
It's on TLC. (I bump into it when I'm switching to Little Miracles or
Birth Stories or something)
