I have some real concerns with using a rubber (latex) catheter to obtain a
urine sample. As Jack states, you can still push bacteria in. NOt omly that
but a greater concern is how we are setting these kids up for latex
allergies. Several times I have now heard that a child who has latex
allergies, was investigated for urinary tract difficulties or investigation
as an infant with lots of catherizations. Don't become invasive unless
absolutely necessary, even if you need to do several clean catches before
you get what you need.
