Anita,

Although not on the topic of those most appreciated
web sites, the Sunday issue of the San Diego
Union Tribune contained a AP article that really
slammed the National Park Service for not main-
taining historic structures. The gist was an
attack on Section 106 and the NPS ethic of protect-
ing all those "outhouses, road monuments," and
archaeology sites. Although the article did not
come right out and recommend to Congress to change
the philosophy and policy of the NPS, it fell
just a tad short and the implication is clearly
there. This article will be a genuine threat
to historic archaeology and should be a concern
to us all.
