I was at a Christmas play last weekend that had two references to
breastfeeding. The play was based on the Biblical nativity stories.
The first was Elizabeth talking to Mary and saying it would not be long
until her body made milk for a baby.
The second was after Jesus was born Mary says to him "are you hungry" and
puts the baby to her breast.
True this is what Jews 2000 years ago would have done but it doesn't mean
20th century Americans are going to re-enact it.
The play was in Lancaster PA which I suspect has a high breastfeeding rate
with its Amish and Mennonite population.
