I'm a great fan of protecting myself from legal hassles, and one of the
best ways to do that is to get the most authoratative document on whatever
topic you are trying to address. Whatever we, as colleagues, might tell you
won't hold much weight if there was a bad outcome.

In this particular case, the most authoratative document is Dr. Lawrence's
"A review of the medical benefits and contraindications to breastfeeding."
It can be downloaded by visiting http://www.nmchc.org/html/fulltext.htm

>A friend of mine who is nursing a 2-week-old has just been diagnosed with
>chickenpox. There are lesions on her areola. One of her doctors has told
>her it is OK to continue breastfeeding. The other has told her it is not OK
>because of the lesions. I have not been able to find an answer for her. If
>the lesions are a concern, couldn't she just use a nipple shield?
