No, they'd do what they do here in Quebec; struggle to buy it and wean them
to whole cow milk (possibly mixed with Karo) at 6 weeks-6 months. Yes,
people in vast numbers are still doing this (hey mom and dad did just fine
on it in the 50's :-/). When I got bagged out for buying formula for my
bottlefed baby it was not from breastfeeders but from people who insisted
at 5,6,7 months he should be on the common milk and karo mix. Including my
pediatrician. You do get $50 a month of free formula if you're on welfare.
but not if you're just poor. Health officers here struggle to get people
to not use cow milk before *9* months. As in they use 9 months as the
goal. Don't assume people will breastfeed w/o free formula. They sure
don't here.
