I happened to pick up Earl Mindell's book _Prescription Alternatives_ and
was shocked to read the following on page 33:

IF YOU'RE PREGNANT OR BREAST-FEEDING, DON'T TAKE IT

... You have to assume that any drug you take [when you're pregnant] will
hurt your baby.
The same goes for breast-feeding. There are few drugs that don't end up in
breast milk. Those that don't may end up there eventually, or affect it in
other ways. Something as seemingly harmless as an aluminum-containing
antacid taken when a woman is breast-feeding can cause mental retardation.
[Has anyone ever heard of this?]

At the end of the book, under references, he lists:
Logsdon, BA, "Drug Use During Lactation," Journal of the American
Pharmaceutical Association, vol. NS37, No. 4, July/August 1997.

Does anyone have access to that article to see if it makes assertions
similar to his?

I checked his web site, and here is the "general information" address under
email addresses. I hope some of you will write and request that your email
be forwarded to Dr. Mindell: [log in to unmask]
