I agree, of course, (with a baby who is still newborn, clearly) that one of
the signs of effective bf is frequent stools. Also, I agree that sleeping
through the night is an indication that the baby is not getting enough
chances to feed enough to grow and to stimulate milk production.

Please don't think that in the UK we do nothing when faced with poor weight
gain, or we are relaxed about poor weight gain. Not at all. But poor weight
gain is, as is often underlined on Lactnet, only one aspect of a situation.

I think all of us would be very concerned indeed about a baby who showed
poor weight gain *plus* sleeping through the night *plus*  scant or few
dirty nappies...these are all signs bf is *not* going well at all, and
prompt action is needed to ensure the situation is corrected. No difference
there between us, I don't think!
