In the USA, most parents take their children to the pediatrician or family
practitioner at 2 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months and 12 months.  There
is no law requiring this, but that schedule follows along nicely with the
immunization schedule in the US.  I needed a physician's order to get the
immunizations, which, at least in the military health care system,
necessitated an office visit.

No-one would have known if I hadn't taken my children for their well-baby
checks, but I probably would have  been lectured about it when they got ill
and needed to be seen.
