Please excuse this confused Aussie asking what may seem to be a 'dumb
question'

Why do we have so many queries on Lactnet concerning parents of
healthy children with low weight gains being given feeding information
from Paediatricians? Is it law in the USA to have health checks every
year or
number of months? Please don't flame me as I am truly trying to
understand another health system.
For example, in Australia you can take baby along to the health clinic
or not. Nobody chases you if you don't. (my first baby has a nice
record of his visits - and weight gains, by my fourth, I went once for
her post birth check up and never again). We only see a paediatrician
if our children are very sick or need specialised ongoing care, not
for colds and flu - for that we would see a GP. Is the health of
children being dictated by a set of rules, or can parents choose
whether to go to the Dr or not? If parents are not being given
responsibility for their children's health, no wonder many are
confused by differing opinions.

warmly,
