Searched through the archives and found several posts on Bubble/high palates.
I could use some more suggestions.
I have a mom whose baby is now 3 weeks old. Baby's palate is a typical bubble
- the tip of my finger slides in and it's a perfect fit <sigh>.
She has already been through mastitis because of nipple fissures. Her right
nipple is still severely fissured, but no longer bleeding after 1 week of
pumping the right side only.
Baby has an ineffective suckle and hypersensitive gag. Weight gain is slow
but steady following a large initial loss. The weight only began coming up
after starting an SNS. Without the tube there was almost no swallowing at
the breast following the initial MER.
Mom's milk supply is dropping she is taking Fenugreek, Red Raspberry and
blessed thistle. Double pumping (classic). Nursing from the intact breast
with the SNS.
Mom is about ready to go to sole pumping and bottle feeding (baby took over an
hour to feed from the Avent bottle the one time she tried)
Any suggestions?
