I simply tell the mother that tho the Dr means well, we have more current
information than the Dr does right now.  I also explain that Dr simply do
not always have the time to keep abreast (no pun intended!) of current BF
information.  Then I ask them if they really think it is possible for any Dr
to be an expert in all areas of care at all times.  They usually say "No"
and then understand why their Dr may have given them incorrect info.
This usually gets the point across without damning the Dr (even tho I
sometimes want to say "Do you not realize that your Dr is an idiot?") or
causing the mother to lose respect for him/her.
