I was listening to one of those moronic morning radio talk-shows while
waiting for the school bus. I only heard the last 5 minutes of it and
don't know what could possibly have sparked this discussion, but it was
a call in debate about whether men *should* breastfeed. The fact that
they *could* seemed to be accepted but they were debating whether it
was appropriate to do so.
The female host and caller said absolutely--babies would bond better
with their daddies and in the instances where mom "could not produce
milk", the baby in question would at least get the milk that was so good
for them and so important.
The male host and caller were grossed out by it and figured a baby would
be warped by a hairy chest. I only heard a small portion of the show
and only 2 callers so don't really know the reason behind this very odd
discussion. But, breastfeeding is out there everywhere these days. The
women on the show seemed to think that breastmilk was important enough
that the baby should get it, even if it meant dad had to do it. The men
were just childish about it.
This was a Washington DC station, BTW.
