On tonights news on Israeli television, the report about the tragic
bombing in downtown Jerusalem yesterday included the story of a mother
and 6 month old baby who were among the many injured. They were both
lightly wounded with some minor scratches and superficial burns. The
news report mentioned that the mother sat at the edge of the road and
breastfed her baby to calm her while waiting for the rescue ambulances.
How fortunate for this baby that even under such tragic circumstances,
breastfeeding helped alleviate her suffering. Unfortunately, it takes
such terrible circumstances for breastfeeding, particularly in public,
to be portrayed on the media as such a positive thing.
